WINE (World IS Not enough)
Our CubeSat mines for water on Mars. I designed, procured, and tested a leg system that allows the WINE (World Is Not Enough) CubeSat to walk around, drill for water, and position itself for launch. You can see the final product in action in the video below!
Microwave ISRu
We extracted water from Martian soil simulant using microwaves. As part of a Jet Propulsion Lab research contract, I developed an auger to control the flow of soil through a microwave reactor to extract water vapor. I was client-facing in this project and developed a system which closely matched our client’s needs.
cold traps
For both the WINE and Microwave ISRU projects, I designed, procured, and tested cold traps to capture water vapor. My innovative designs used Phase Change Material (PCM) to enable high thermal performance in tough environments. You can see the cold trap from the WINE project in the video below at 2:08.
