Appreciating a Classic

I’m an avid sailor, and was the co-founder of my town’s local Sea Scout Ship.

In 2015 and 2016, I spent my summers tending to a 1929 Alden Triangle, a legendary old wooden sailboat that required constant maintenance. With my fellow Sea Scouts, I repaired storm damage, refinished wood, and kept up the systems on the old sailboat.

After hours of repair and restoration work, it was so rewarding to take the helm and feel the boat cut through the water the way it was intended to nearly 100 years ago.

After a sudden storm ripped a winch from the deck, I led a project to patch the damage. The project was high-stakes and time-consuming, but ultimately a success!
